Martin Sewell started the company in 1985 following a five year engineering apprenticeship with Phillips Research (the global electronics brand). With a strong family background in construction there was an ideal support network in place with many vital skills being handed down from Martin’s father. Originally trading under the name ‘Martin Sewell Builders’ and based in Brighton, the company grew quickly, meaning that Martin had to trade his tools for a desk. Taking care to ask incisive questions, having a professional insistence for thoroughness, great attention to detail and consistently high standards (in what can traditionally be a fickle industry), steady growth was, and continues to be, ensured. Projects range from modest domestic requirements through to major design and build projects for a variety of private customers, a hospital, private schools, high profile architects and local authorities. If there is one thing we have learnt about building projects, it is that almost every project is a prototype. Your house has never before been built, renovated, or extended in quite the way you intend. Of course, a very large percentage of the methods, details and techniques involved in construction are replicated thousands of times on a daily basis. But the small percentage that makes your project unique requires a large percentage of experience, communication and ‘know how’ to model successfully.
We hope that you share our trust in what we have found to be three critical principles:
- Good management as absolutely crucial for most successful projects.
- A professional and experienced partner to ensure a high quality finished product.
- More often than not, the least expensive materials and services do not equate to the best value.
